An analysis of the learner

University of Northern Colorado. Sensors remember and understand information best if they can see how it connects to the real world. Suppose we have noticed that our students tend to read a text word by word, or feel the need to understand or even translate every word in order to process a text.

In a word, I need to see not just what I have achieved or not achieved - that is, the product of my activity - but also how I have achieved it - that is, the process I have been through while using the strategy. Do tbey offer opportunities to make choices?

You can think of it as our mountaintop! Sensors tend to be patient with details and good at memorizing facts and doing hands-on laboratory work; intuitors may be better at grasping new concepts and are often more comfortable than sensors with abstractions and mathematical formulations.

If you are an active learner in a class that allows little or no class time for discussion or problem-solving activities, you should try to compensate for these lacks when you study.

The intent of instruction is to communicate with the learners, so it is important to be aware of any cultural factors that may impede or adversely impact the flow of information.

Kinesthetic learning

For example, when new sales representatives are trained to understand the sales over the twelve months last year, use a line graph instead of showing a video clip of the department head making an annual sales report. Therefore, if I think that language is all about a set of rigid rules, I will react negatively to communicative activities which are perhaps high on fluency and low on accuracy; I will not be ready to take risks and tolerate ambiguity.

For example, they are able to arrange the most suitable conditions for learning, both at school and at home; they know how to monitor their writing, spotting mistakes and focussing their attention on their weak areas; they know how to check their progress, and can compare their self-assessment with other measures of proficiency provided by the teacher.

And we try to make them appreciate that if they have improved their performance or if they have increased their confidence in reading and studying, this may be due to the use of one or more strategies. Is there a common factor unifying all these trends within and beyond the communicative approach to language teaching?

Do my learners have any professional experience? I feel there can be no real independence without the ability to work with others. Underneath that should be your name, email address, and the date.
